01.To think about before you start 

  • Because of radio waves the input might get noisy so please enable airplane-mode before you start.
  • Acoustic feedback might occur if you don’t use the speaker. Please use headphones or lower the speaker volume while the microphone is set to on.
  • Before you start RecTools02 make sure to connect any external devices that you plan to use and don’t unplug them until you are finished (it will result in a little delay since the audio system must be reinitialized). iPod touch users should not unplug any microphone external hardware cause the audio system can not be reinitialized after an such action, the application will still run but it not possible to play or record without doing a reboot).

02.The main screen 

1. PROJECT NAME 

shows the name of the current project

2. PAN-POT 

Position your sound

3. CLIP 

Shows if the input is too loud

4. INPUT GAIN FADER 

Controls the volume of the input

5. WAVE / WAVE AREA 

Shows the waveform of your recording.
With one finger you can scroll this area with two fingers it’s also possible to zoom.

6. TIME LINE 

Shows the time at specific points in your projects.

7. POSITION BAR / POSITION BAR CONTROL AREA 

Shows where you are when playing or recording.(Information about the Control Area can be found in section 4)

8. MARKER / MARKER AREA 

Put markers on important places in your project and access them easily later.

9. MARKER EDIT 

Used when you add, move and delete markers.

10. MARKER SEARCH 

Moves you to the closest marker in a forward direction.

11. TIME 

Shows where the position bar is located in time.

12. TRANSPORT 

File, Recording and playback, wave editing, selecting

03.Lets make a recording! 

1. Start the application

Open RecTools02 from the home screen of your iPhone/iPod touch.
(If you are using an external microphone make sure to connect it before you start the application)


2. Create a new project

Press FILE and a new window will appear. press NEW to create a new project.
You can also load, change name, copy and delete projects in this window.
( By pressing QUICK START you can start a project immediately. )


3. Setup your project

Enter a name and choose your settings.
※Note that Audio Quality and Mono/Stereo can not be changed after project once is created.
  • NAME…The name of the project
  • AUDIO QUALITY… you can choose between 44.1kHz (Best) 22.05kHz(Ok) 11.025kHz (Worst).
  • MONO/STEREO… Choose if you want to do a single channel or a two channel recording.
  • LIMITER…Protects you from sound deformation caused by too loud input.
  • HIGH PASS FILTER…Removes low frequency noise.


4.Preparations before your start to record.

When you are done with the setup, the main screen will appear. The next thing to do is level adjustments.
  • Enable the microphone by pressing REC. You can se the input level on the volume fader control to the left.
  • Next, adjust the input gain and make sure that it doesn’t clip
    (the clip text above the volume fader will get highlighted if the input once was clipped).
    (Since the recording will be affected please make the volume as high as possible without clipping, this will give you the best result).
  • When your finished with level adjustment, adjust finally adjust the panning position and your are done.


5.Recording

Press REC to start to record.
Press on the recording button once again to enable SILENT KILL (Silent kill mode)

04. Playback and the position bar 

Playback

press PLAY and the project will start playing from the position of the position bar.

Change the position of the position bar

Press inside the control area and move it freely.
From the Transport:
Goes to the start of the project
Rewind
Forward

05. Marker editing 

Press once (press again to go back).
This must always be done before you can start edit markers.
The position bar’s control area will now be used for marker editing instead (marker area).

Add markers:

Press once inside the marker area to add a new marker

Move markers:

Press on the marker that you want to move and move it to the new position

Delete markers

Press on the marker that you want to delete and drag it in a upward direction, it gets darken and will be deleted once you
release your finger.
press to go to the next marker
Note that it’s fully possible to move your finger to a different section of the screen (which makes it a lot easier to see cause your finger don’t cover the marker) once you have started a marker action.

06. Wave editing 

To start edit your recorded wave blocks please press .
In RecTools02 you can MOVE, COPY, PASTE, DUPLICATE, DELETE, RESIZE and SPLIT your recorded wave blocks.
With this set of features you can remove material that you don’t need and just keep the data that you want.
For selection and moving of blocks you just have to touch the block that you want to edit.
You can find a more detailed explanation of all the actions in the “08. The transport bar” section

07.PC SYNC 

1. Project Mix Down

Convert your entire project to one WAV file that can be played on your computer
*To sync data to your computer you must first make a mix down of your project.

2. PC Sync

Via WI-FI you can download mix downs to your computer.
* Your iPhone/iPod Touch must be in the same local network as your PC for this to work.


08. The transport bar 

■FILE MODE

Press once and the following buttons will appear:
Enable or disable the limiter and high pass filter for the current project. 
Save the current project 
Make a mix down of the current project. 
Press twice and the following buttons will appear:
You can create New projects, load previously saved projects, rename copy and delete projects. 
Via WI-FI you can download mix downs to your computer.
* Your iPhone/iPod Touch must be in the same local network as your PC for this to work. 
Creates a project immediately. The settings are 44.1khz, mono, limiter and high pass filter off. 

■REC & PLAY MODE

Enable microphone input. 
Goes to the start of the project 
Rewind 
Forward 
Stops playback or recording. 
Starts playback. 
Start to record input from the microphone. 
If you press on the recording button once again silent kill mode will be enabled. If no microphone input is present the application will stop automatically and when it is present again it will start. 

■EDIT MODE

Press once and the following buttons will appear:
Lets you make a multi selection. 
Copy all the selected blocks. 
Pastes all copied blocks. 
Duplicates all selected blocks. 
Delete all selected blocks. 
undo actions (unlimited). 
redo actions. 
Press twice and the following buttons will appear:
Changes the size of the block from the left. 
Changes the size of the block from the right. 
Split one block into two blocks.
